A Fabulous large Beautiful Authentic Wartime Panel stitched British Union Jack flag. The flag dating from WWII wartime early 1940s, makers label to one end Made by Ernest W Perrett in London, a premier flag maker, The "Excelsior" trademark was registered in 1934 , the colours are still bright and vivid, shows some aging, the flag is made of a good thick sack like material finishing and separate panel stitched segments, flag missing rope and toggle attachment, A good display size 880mm x 1700mm would look great displayed for patriotic functions etc. Wartime flags are becoming very collectable and in great demand. About the Union Jack Flag.
The current design of the union jack flag dates from the union of Ireland and Great Britain in beginning of the early1800s Georgian era, When the very first flag was introduced in beginning of the 1600s, it became known as simply the British flag or the flag of Britain. The word "jack" was in use before 1600 to describe the maritime bow flag. One thought goes that for some years it would have been called just simply the Jack, or "the King's Jack flag ", but by the late 1600s, the where formally referred to as His Majesty's Jack flag, it was commonly called the Union Jack flag ever since, and this was officially acknowledged.
