A wonderful opportunity to obtain an authentic original very rare cri 1801-King George III British Royal Silk flag Napoleonic war era, the flag is made of fine silk Damask and metal threads. Padded finishing, the flag is made in the most beautiful gilt bullion, hand applied embroidery finishing and depicting the British Monarchy Royal Coat of Arms with crown and shield flanked by the royal lion and unicorn, bordered in thick bullion foliage and national flowers, to crimson ground, Made from Crimson velvet silk with heavy gilt bullion lace embellishment. The workmanship is exquisite, this flag that is for sale was presented to Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex one of the sons to King George III of the United Kingdom. It would have been commissioned for him when he became prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex in 1801 and is believed to be the only one to exist making it incredibly Rare indeed, the flag bears royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom The coat of arms of Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex (1773-1843), was based on the Royal Arms of King George Ill the outer shield symbols on the quartered shield represent the three kingdoms of England, Scotland and Ireland. Either side of the shield stand the lion of England and the unicorn of Scotland. The corners of the flag are embroidered with roses, thistles and shamrocks, also symbols of the three unified kingdoms. with a motto 'SIDEUS PRO NOBIS QUIS CONTRA NOS’. Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex
27 January 1773 - 21 April 1843, was the sixth son and ninth child of King George Ill and his queen consort, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. He was the only surviving son of George III who did not pursue an army or navy career.
