WWI MILITARY 1917 KNIGHTHOOD OF THE ORDER OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE SET.

We are very proud to offer for sale a wonderful opportunity to purchase a totally authentic original example of a very hard to find Full Size WW1 1917 KING GEORGE V, 1st Type KBE Knight Commander of the Order of the British medal set This set would have been made by famous silversmith and Royal warrant holder Garrard & Co. examples rarely come up for offer and this example is in fantastic condition. The set consists of the Knights commander set of insignia comprising of the concaved Breast Star in silver. The neck badge is made of Sterling Silver and Guilloche finishing. To the reverse of the medal, we see the Royal cipher with crown above and roped bordering. The medal is hinged attached to the crown which is in perfect working order. The medal is still in superb finishing as you can see from the photos, the guilloche enamel is in excellent condition with the inner circle in red finished enamel with block lettering in gold "For God and the Empire". To the centre Royal Britanna Design again finished in gold gilt. The medal still retains its original neck tie and fastener, the silk royal purple water fleck ribbon with red stripe to centre indicating a military issued example. The breast star is an oval eight-pointed star with pin back attachment made of sterling silver, concaved in shape with raised pyramid points to front to the centre, British Britannia finished in gold gilt. I have only had limited examples of KBEs over my many years of dealing, the last one in my possession was over eight years ago, very hard to find, especially being in excellent condition. Garrard and Co manufacture and design luxury jewellery and silver. They were founded in 1735 with the brand headquarters in Mayfair. Garrard was the first official and most notably important Crown Jewellers of the United Kingdom. In 1843 Queen Victoria appointed Garrard as the first ever official Crown Jewellers, leading to the production of numerous pieces of silverware and jewellery for the royal family as well as the upkeep of the British Royal Crown Jewels.
