This medal set- By appointment silversmiths to the Late King George VI, The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd, Crown Jewellers incorporating Garrard & Co, 112 Regent Street, London. W.1. A scarce box issued for a short period immediately after the death of the late Monarch. Royal Warrants: The company held warrants as Silversmiths to King George VI, a significant mark of prestige. Transition Period: After the King's passing in February 1952, these boxes were made for a short time before new warrants for Queen Elizabeth Il were issued, making them historically scarce. Garrard & Co.: The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company merged with Garrard (the existing Crown Jeweller) in 1952, consolidating their royal business under the Garrard name at the Regent Street location. Collector's Item: These boxes are sought after by collectors of British royal memorabilia, vintage jewellery boxes, and fine silversmithing.
In essence, the box isn't just packaging; it's a tangible piece of history from a pivotal moment in British royal service, That's a description of a rare, vintage presentation box from The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company Ltd (who merged with Garrard & Co., the Crown Jewellers), issued briefly around 1952 after King George VI's death, marking a poignant moment when they transitioned from royal appointment holders for him to serving the new monarch, Elizabeth II, essentially a commemorative piece for collectors of royal & silversmithing history.
Garrard of London are the makers of the Crown Jewells which are housed in the Tower of London, also Garrard are credited for such pieces as the Queen Mary Crown used for the Coronation, the Imperial Crown of India worn by King George V and the famous Koh-I-Noor diamond which was made for the Queen Mother. Robert Garrard II Silverware is avidly more collected as they received the Royal Warrant under his production which makes them more desirable than the earlier Garrard’s silver, to this date Garrard’s still produce silver for the British Royal Family.
