AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL SCARCE WWII 48 STAR AMERICAN WARTIME FLAG.
We are very proud to offer for sale an authentic original scarce WWII, 48-star, American wartime flag. This flag was purchased from south devon, as you can see from the photos the flag has much usage and was flown at a US base within the county of south Devon during the preparation for the D Day landings which was code named operation overlord. The flag is of a very large size which is 346cm x 170cm, just over 11 foot long. The flag has a construction of stitched panelling, the blue panel is stitched to the red and white stripes and has 48 printed stars, still retains very good colouring, even though it shows signs of its age, which is over 80 years, the flag has some tearing and holes due to its usage, please see photos. The flag was presented to a local Townhall which was occupied by the British forces by US soldiers for their appreciation and as a thanks for being made feel welcome. South Devon was a major training area around Slapton Sands which resembled Utah Beach. The nearby ports of Brixham, Dartmouth and Salcombe were significant embarkation points for the invasion fleet, with specific units like the US 4th infantry division departing from Brixham’s slipways for Utah Beach. A very scarce US 48-star flag to obtain, which was used during the preparations of operation overlord. Please note the photos of training and amphibious landing vehicles are not for sale with this item for reference purposes only. The flag was obtained from the family of a British officer that the flag was presented by his US counterpart. Fascinating piece of wartime allied memorabilia.
