TOTALLY ORIGINAL SPECIAL AIR SERVICE (S.A.S.) TRIO SET OF EMBROIDERED INSIGNIA.
A wonderful incredible opportunity to obtain a totally original authentic and very desirable Elite set of special Air Service (S.A.S) cloth insignia. A trio of embroidered Special Air Service insignia, the set includes: a WW2 pattern 2nd S.A.S shoulder title with the correct round ends, WW2 parachute qualification wings insignia with a tan hessian backing (with wartime era flat wings), and a very desirable and highly collectable elite 1944 pattern SAS beret badge with the famous SAS motto (who dares wins) to front along with sword and winged sides to the reverse a tan hessian backing, this particular badge would have been fitted to the much rarer, tan/sand colour berry. All items have fantastic embroidery finishing and with fine detailing. The Shoulder title size 9.5cm across, the wings insignia size 7.5cm across, and the elite beret badge size 3.9cm across. Condition: overall very good for their age. Some age-related browning to some of the embroidered threads, particularly noticeable to the pale blue lettering on the shoulder title. Some loose thread to the back of the wing insignia, and the hessian backing is slightly peeled away on the elite SAS beret badge. A very nice desirable trio set of special air service SAS. This particular set of SAS related insignia came from a very large collection of SAS period cap badges, buttons, and cloth items, all of which were collected by a gentleman beginning in his childhood and throughout his lifetime, The collector is sadly now deceased and some of his collection is now available for sale. Special Air Service carry out complex military tasks in difficult conditions all over the world, often with little direct support from other units. The special Air Service are tasked to the highest level and can operate in difficult and often changing terrain and circumstances. The selection process for the SAS is one of the most difficult and toughest training programs in the world. Its purpose is to test candidates to the utmost limit of their physical and mental abilities through rare, it is not unheard of for candidates to actually die during the selection process due to extreme human endurance.

It was chosen by David Stirling to reflect the unit's unconventional and daring approach to warfare.
