AN ORIGINAL 1860s BRITISH VICTORIAN HAND LANTERN BY FAMOUS MAKER HIATT & Co.

A wonderful opportunity to obtain an original fine specimen of an original British Victorian Antique Police Bullseye hand lantern by the highly regarded maker Hiatt & Co of Birmingham. Hiatt & Co are famous for making all of the police issued items including the bullseyes hand held lanterns. This example is in fantastic condition apart from age related wear which you would expect, carries the full Hiatt & Co Birmingham Brass tag to the door, along with a brass paten number tag to the bottom of the fisheye. The fisheye glass is in perfect condition. The lantern is in full working order, to the top we see the three stack Christmas tree finish, which opens up to allow the officer to place his cup on top to reheat his tea or alternatively to warm up his hands. The lantern has its original belt clip to the back used to attach the lantern to the police officer’s belt. These lanterns were used to lite up the dingy gas lit streets during the Victorian period. Hiatt & Co. were the prestige’s fabricators of the period and their police products were highly sought after.
This example would look absolutely stunning in a home, bar etc where you could easily take out the oil container from the inside and replace with a tealight candle and used for special occasions, would be lovely to bring back life into it again.
