WONDERFUL WWI ERA PURPLE CATHOLIC PRIEST STOLE.
A wonderful Purple Catholic Priest Stole, dating from WWI. Both sides feature the Patonce Cross with three petals to each quarter, depicting the twelve apostles. The points to the cross points to the four corners of the earth. Deep purple silk finishing, makers label intact J. Wippell & Co Exeter. To the collar again we see the Patonce cross. Nice embroidery Crosses with good finishing. The photos on the mannequin does not show the full length of the stole it was just to show how it was worn. Has some fraying and slight loose to the bottom can easily be reattached. Wonderful item over 100 years old. The purple colour stole used by priests would be used for hearing confessions and for the seasons of Advent and Lent. WWI Priest would hold mass on a daily basis and would hear confession and give the last rites. Size: 8ft, has some fraying some parts coming loose i,e tassels, can easily be rectified needs a little tlc, in a fair condition,
