ORIGINAL IRON VINTAGE BRICK LANE E1 LONDON STREET SIGN

A wonderful opportunity to purchase one of the most top iconic street signs of London, Brick Lane E1 (which is located in the East End of London). The signs dates from around the late 1950s and made of cast iron, scalloped corners and raised embossed outer boarder and embossed wording BRICK LANE E1. The sign is large and very heavy. I was debating whether to keep this myself and find it quite hard to let go, alas it is now time to pass it on. I have not attempted to restore this and have left it in its condition would look great restored to its former glory. This would look fantastic in a themed bar/restaurant or even within the garden or outside wall. Brick Lane is famous for its history, regeneration and lifestyle, the street original dates back to the 15th Century it devises its current name from the brick and tile manufacturing, which used the local brick earth deposits. Brewing came to Brick Lane before 1680, with water drawn from the local wells, one brewer was Joseph Truman. The Brick Lane market first developed in the 17th Century for fruit and vegetables sold outside the city. In the 19th century, the Sunday market ran through to the adjoining roads, which are the famous Petticoat Lane and Columbia Road markets which then sold brick-a-brac and flowers. Today Brick Lane is a thriving, cosmopolitan, trendy, vibrant part of East London where restaurants, bars and fashion line the street. In the past there has been a darker side to brick lane, unfortunately, on the evening of 31st August 1888 Jack the Ripper committed one of his atrocious acts, Mary Ann Nicols, his first victim, was last seen in the Old Frying Pan pub which was on the corner of Brick Lane. Brick Lane is steeped in History and a Hugh part of East London’s past to this day, carries lots of memories and sentimental feels for those that have moved from London. All in all, a great opportunity to obtain a fine original London Street sign in good condition.
