Antique Sterling Silver WWI 1918 Three Piece Travelling communion Set. A fine and most beautiful, highly sought after Antique sterling silver three-piece travelling communion set with travelling case dating 1918 the last year of WWI ,made by prolific Silversmith Maker of the time James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield, the communion set consists of chalice, paten, and wine ewer (with lid and cork seal), the paten has the star burst with inscription IHS which is Latin for Jesus, which is beautifully engraved. Each item carries the same full set of Sterling Silver hallmarks,, this set has never been put together and is a complete set, which all sit in their original blue velvet lined presentation box with brown leatherette finishing, press to release catch which is in working order the front of the box has sterling silver plaque dedicated to Rev. H.H. Goodin St Pauls etc etc.. All in all a wonderful collectors piece, becoming hard to find as most wine ewer’s on todays market are of glass, this set is entirely of Sterling silver Maker: James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield.Hallmarks: Makers Mark JD & S Date Letter a 1918 Lion .925 Sterling Silver Finest, Crown Sheffield Size: height of chalice 74mm. Wine Ewer: height 82mm. Paten 65mm wide.light surface marks consistent with age and genuine use. Superb condition no knocks or dents. Cuff marks to box as you would expect for its age.
