Category:
£325.00
authentic example and a great opportunity to obtain a totally original fine British Victorian 1860s Antique metropolitan Police officers London issued Bullseye handheld flash light lantern by the highly respected maker of the time Hiatt & Co of Birmingham. Hiatt & Co are famous for making all of the early Victorian police issued items including the bullseyes handheld lanterns of the era. This example is in really condition apart from age related wear which you would expect, the lantern carries the full brass Hiatt & Co Birmingham metal tag to the door, The fisheye glass is in good condition just a bubble shell in the glass to the side done during manufacture. The lantern is in good working order minus wick and displays very well, to the top we see the three stack Christmas tree chimney finish, The lantern has its original belt clip to the back this is used to attach the lantern to the police officer’s belt. These lanterns were used to lite up the dingy gas lit streets during the Victorian period, and would have been used during the hunt for jack the ripper during the Victorian era of London, also please see my very rare police medals and whistle set relating to jack the ripper on my eBay shop Hiatt & Co. were the prestige’s fabricators of the period and their police products were highly sought after epically with the Hiatt & Co of Birmingham trade mark tag. This particular example would look great in a home for decoration or a decoration over the charismas season, a themed bar etc, you could easily take out the oil container from the inside and replace with a tealight candle and used for special occasions also, would be absolutely lovely to bring back life again. The period photo of the police officers does not come with the lantern sale and is for reference only.
