A most wonderful collection of letters sent to Brigadier, later Major General A.K. Hay, the most significant example being a personal handwritten letter from and signed by Field Marshall (Bernard) Montgomery of Alamein, the famous British desert rat’s leader. The Letter is Dated 22.3.46 and accompanied by the his hand written stamped and address envelope, he commiserates with Hay over his asthma.
The second letter of this excellent collection is from the British War Office and dated 10th April 1935 and is again of a personal nature and with an indiscernible signature to the bottom.
Finally, a letter in reply to a request by Hay, from Field Marshal Jan Smutts (who was later Prime Minister of South Africa) dated 30th of September 1918. A wonderful collection of letters indeed would grace any collection, please note the photograph of Montgomery does not come with the sale, for reference purpose only.
